GREEN ACCELERATION
A figure of eco-management and cicatrixisation effected by humans for at least 6,000 years. Juvenile trees are cut back at regular intervals (three to fifty years depending on species) to produce fire wood, basketry materials, fencing stakes, construction timber, charcoal etc.
Coppice functions as verb and noun, naming both the silviculture practice of cutting and the group of plants (copse) upon which it is practiced. Coppice can thus be thought of as a nomos: the reciprocal determination of a lore and a territory.
Coppicing paradoxically posits extraction as stimulation. This should not be mistaken for the "creative destruction" of Marxian economics, whether in its left or right interpretations (e.g. Harvey & Berman vs Schumpeter).
